All these posts about ppl being asked to come in on their day off for a meeting or cleaning or something, but is there no minimum shift length? Im an aussie and we have 2 kinds of employment, casual and permanent. If your permanent any changes to your hours have to be with the employees request or approval. And if you're casual, theres a minimum shift length or 3 hours, and often unions will get industry wide agreements to increase it to 4 or even 5 in some cases. Can you americans really be asked to commute to work just for a 20min meeting? I once had an employer mistakenly schedule me on a public holiday (casuals dont get paid for public holidays), but noone showed up to open the doors, so i rang my manager, found out it was a mistake, got paid for 4 hours and went home.

My encounter at a Quicktrip.
Upset and angry.
Got fired today for not showing up to work after having told my boss I would not be there because I am in the process of moving. Not just told him but also had it in written form as part of my resignation letter. Feeling like this was in retaliation to my resignation. I start my new job in two weeks but desperately needed the next two paychecks. I filed for unemployment but I know that process is long and I may not even get anything in the time between now and my first day at the new job. Probably going to call the new job tomorrow and see if I can start orientation earlier. Just absolutely fucking pissed and honestly my feelings are hurt as ‘babyish’ as that sounds. On top of being asked by this last employer if I was religious during my interview, them trying to convert…
no air-conditioning at new job
I just started a new job at commonly seen makeup store. I come in today at 6 am and worked until 10 or 11. The store was stifling. I asked why the air-conditioning wasn't working. My coworker told me that the company doesn't turn it on until customers come in. I don't want to be a baby because I see other people seem to like it there and have worked there for years. I don't need a job but I want one. So I'm tempted to leave but idk if I'm overreacting or overwhelmed because I also just started my period. I left work smelling really bad even though I took a shower before my shift. I know so many people have it worse though. I got the job to get out of the house and to improve my mental health. What should I do? It is only going to…
mostly here just to vent. I went into the hospital recently for mental health problems and told my manager and assistant manager about it as to why I wasn't able to show up for my shifts that week (it was a mandatory 72 hour hold). I got back last week and realized that several people, if not everybody, knows that I went to the hospital and why. People were coming up to me asking me how I was doing since I got out (was at first appreciative of their concern and then realized that I had not told them where I had gone or why). On top of that, my manager made a joke about “how depressed I was” in front of several coworkers. I'm so embarrassed and frustrated. I've been wanting a new job for a while bc this one is exhausting and I don't get enough hours but…
I am disabled and looking for a job as an apprentice in the trades in a union because of my high medical bills, but I make $0 dollars a year so I get free housing and free groceries along with $110 to spend on needs like hygiene etc. as they don't provide hygiene materials so I rely on my parents for that. Part of me says I need to work now that I'm out of the house in order to show my face in the community, but I can only make under 1,450 dollars a month and keep my benefits which I would need a car for, but I immediately get cut off from my benefits if I own more than two thousand dollars. It's extremely shameful in my family and community to see a physically able-bodied man not working, but why would I work for 40 years just to…
Working is for liberals.
That’s it. No one deserves to have to work for somebody.
