Month: May 2023
This was years ago, not that long after getting my first job. I thought you all would appreciate the tale. Before I was hired, the development manager had told the people in charge (who were salesmen, really) a product would take two years to build with their experienced team of developers. They decided to instead hire a new team of graduates to build it in six months. Six months later, they had a moment of “oh shit” and were trying to decide whether to outsource the work because we weren't performing according to their expectations. So they fired the whole team, even the guy they'd only hired two weeks before. Gave us official letters and everything. Now, the dude in charge was American, and we were British. He didn't realise that we could easily take him to court for that. But it didn't get that far. As the title says,…
It’s funny because it’s true
I’ll admit I wasn’t the greatest employee to begin with and did make mistakes. However, the past year, and even in his own words at my appraisal, I’ve improved significantly. Not only this, I’ve passed 5 examinations in a year first time meaning I have 2 left to be fully qualified (which is what he is) Despite this, I’m still being underpaid, he seldom trains me on anything that will get me a higher position, and I’ve even seen emails between him and another colleague talking badly about me. The man is a control freak and doesn’t want me to prosper. The straw which broke the camels back is when I received my pay which was less than last month (I got a minimal increase for passing exams, but through no reason or communication my pay is back to where it was before) I’m not getting bullied by a man…
“The Statistics Canada analysis finds there are no labour shortages for jobs that require high levels of education, suggesting other factors, such as a mismatch in skills and pay, might be to blame for a high number of empty positions.”
I know it was last minute, but I texted my boss saying I can't work tomorrow (I usually tell him at the end of the night my schedule but he went home early) and he texted me back literally just saying, “why not” 🤣 Like it reminds me of that meme, “normalize not telling your boss what your day off is for.” I understand it's last minute, but dang he could've probably sent a more professional text lol although the kid is 19 what should I expect 🤷️
And I have no idea why I keep seeing these posts on my feed. So I’m gonna offer some sage wisdom: You tend to get what you put out in the world and the world will give you in return what you put out there. It’s karma and it’s not just hippy bullshit. Attitude and perspective are everything. If you’re constantly negative, bad stuff is more likely to happen to you. But if you’re positive then you receive more good, or at the very least the bad won’t bother you so much. You need a better mindset. If you’re sick of a shitty job, then leave and find a different one instead of dwelling on the bad shit and complaining about it to strangers. Spend less time staring at negative shit on the internet and more time thinking about happy shit or something, damn.
4 vacation days left
My son graduates high school on June 6th (Tuesday). I'm taking a vacation (sick day) on that day so I don't have to worry about work. That counts as one, should I take the final 3 days the rest of that week and recharge or save 'em for rainy days? Long story short, I work nightshift, 4p to midnight, and I'm burnt out completely. Need to take care of some personal matters, including finding a better job with dayshift hours. Also need to finalize information for applying for energy (electric bill) assistance. I've just about had it with this place. It's an easy job and is compatible with my ADHD issues but I've already quiet quit cause it's a mental drain due to idiot clients and a mildly toxic boss. Fire away with your thoughts!
