Going through interviews. I hate them.

My team was laid off this month, and I need to find a job. I have chronic diseases and generally can't work “on-site” and my compromise is “hybrid”, ideal fully remote. I had some dismissals and few ghostings, and I have 2 interviews next week, recruiters are reaching to my LinkedIn and the offers are mostly bad, but I had some luck. I have a certificate in a rare foreign language which I haven't practiced in several years and 2 companies tried to exploit it and hire me for 3 languages at the same time, but the job has nothing to do with the 3rd language. In one job I had a surprise test in the interview for my third language with a native. (Again the job offer had nothing to do with the language and I have my language certificate in my profile). Is this a common practice? Sometimes…

Wage Premium for Drug Testing and On-Site Jobs?

I don't know anyone who wants to work in a job that drug tests or requires them to be on location. Healthcare, transportation, food service, construction, law enforcement, etc. are experiencing huge labor shortages, which I suspect is caused by inaccurate pricing of their wages in the wake of current labor market conditions. After the pandemic and the dramatic rise of work-from-home, most workers' expectations for their ideal job have changed. The average worker now wants to work-from-home five days a week with no questions being asked about what they do in their private time, including whether or not they do drugs. Is there now a quantifiable percentage or amount of extra wages for these jobs that make up for their working conditions? HR could call it an “on-site” or “substance testing” premium, but it would give job-seekers an incentive by being explicitly compensated for employment conditions that are now…

Pipe dream?

Has there been a model before for a sting operation against businesses that chronically violate labor laws? They fucked up legally so many times with me and I didn't realize I could go for them legally. Also my coworkers. I quit so probably can't do much now. They will fuck over every new employee though. Say I recruit someone to apply and get hired. With the knowledge they will get fucked and they need to be in on the fight. The money won will be theirs but I'd hope for a donation to get another lawyer to rinse and repeat. (I think I can get money for the initial lawyer and battle) Has this model been done before?

How to creatively spite new dress code?

I work in retail for a major athletic clothing brand. Our previous dress code allowed us to wear pretty much anything, as long as it had no visible branding of competing brands. (This didn’t apply to socks, we could wear whatever). This meant we could wear jerseys, graphic tees, etc… Our new dress code came out today, and we are now being told we cannot wear “visible non-(our brand) logos or graphics, OR visible non – (our brand) printed messages, words, or statements.” How can I go about spiting this whilst still fitting in our new guidelines? All that’s left is clothing with no images or words at all, or clothes from the company I work for. I’m also being told I cannot wear Nike socks anymore, which is all I own, and I’m not buying new socks to please my store. Thoughts?

Supervisor says we have to ask him permission to go into town/ (I work in the field) 15-20 min from nearest town.

I work in oil and gas for a big corporate company, we have a new supervisor and to my knowledge this isn’t an actual policy. So do I have to ask to go into town to shit because 100 degree blue out house crappers ain’t fun in the summer. Screw this

Employer threatening to withhold commisions

Hello reddit. Something happened today at work that really bothered me. I work for a small construction firm in Texas. I started as a technician, but at a point two years ago I was given the opportunity to collect a commission on projects I estimated and sold in addition to an hourly wage. I basically work part time as a technician and part time as a salesman. I see the job costing of these projects and generate a sales report. I've gotten better and better and can see I generate revenue far exceeding my wage and commission. I feel mostly underpaid, but not severely underpaid, and I like the business and the people I work for. Anyways, I've had some personal difficulties and over an hour commute that has resulted in my tardiness. I was told I would be suspended without pay in lieu of being terminated if I was…

Anybody up for giving a struggling camp counselor (17F) some advice… is it worth it to quit with 6 days left? (Long post, but TL;DR included)

I will start off by laying out the conditions of my work, and then grievances will be put into bullet points. If I can succinctly fit all of this info into a TL;DR, then I will! But here is all of the shit. First off, I work an 8:20 AM-3:20 PM shift everyday Monday-Friday. There is one night each session that we are required to work until 7:20 PM. There are also opportunities for extra hours, such as working an extended day either in the morning or in the afternoon, but I did not take that opportunity. I am not paid by the hour, but if I was, it would average out to about $12.50/hour. I am in Illinois, but since camps aren’t subject to the same laws (or at least I had heard that somewhere) it’s okay that it’s under minimum wage? At the end of the summer, I…

I think I’m gonna make it.

Tldr at end. I joined this subreddit assuming I would disagree with basically everything I saw but I wanted to understand how other people were thinking. I disagree with a lot, but I've also learned a lot. I'm one of the ones who believed if I worked hard and smart enough I would make it. The family, the cars, the house and maybe even the savings. Im a painter: houses and fences and stuff like that. Years ago I was working for a company where I was given immense responsibility because of my ability, while at the same time looked down on for my age, I started there at 19 years old and left when I was 22, not a long time I know. When I left I had worked my way to making $23/hr and my boss had just promised me $25/hr a couple days before I quit. I…
