Got hired at a store, worked one full week, now I don’t get any hour

This is my first post here so I hope its well received. A few months ago I had got out of high school and started to look for a full time job. It took me a while to find one in my area as I had to have it in a certain radius from where I live (I have a tiny electric scooter that can only go 28 miles, I am working on getting my license but didn’t have it at the time). I found what seemed like the perfect job about a month ago at a grocery story. It was a good distance away from where I lived and I got hired for it almost immediately. Turns out its not so perfect after all. I was looking for a full time position as I need to pay rent but they said that they only do part time for starting…

I detest this job market

I live in New Brunswick and for almost five years was working for the trucking company owned by the evil billionaire who runs my province. I did quality work and showed up on time. Well, we had a bad quarter at the beginning of this year so most of my team & I were laid off. I did receive a month and a half of severance at least. Queue to looking for a new job, (I refuse to say career) and thankfully a few weeks later found one but the hours are awful. I went from a comfortable 9-5 five days a week to 6-5 six days a week when it was supposed to be five I have been looking for something else and had two promising interviews to only be told it came down to me and one other candidate and I did not get it. Absolutely sucks. I…

What in the flying crap?

Work is getting out of hand and don’t even know what to think at this point.. First off, I work in healthcare as a dietary cook and have been here for a little over 10 years and have never seen anything like what I’m dealing with here. We have been short staffed ever since Covid hit at our facility and now that Covid has died down you would think that it would get better from here? No, it really hasn’t. Where our supervisor is hiring people to “fill the void” and making do, even though it hurts the workers that are striving to make this place better. Recently, on Wednesday, we had two call ins and we desperately needed somebody to come in to cover for them. We had one of our head cooks that was off that day to do one position and then one of the kids on…

We are animals

I think too often people forget we are animals. What other animal exists that lives the life we do other than the livestock who are born and killed in their own feces at inhumane numbers. Human beings are animals. We are literally not robots. How do you expect me to be productive when I have to work 40 hours a week to barely have a place to live, a car to drive, and food on my plate and then come home and try to study for my classes. I don't understand how there are people out there who are just okay with this. Or love it. I am so scared and confused about the future if this is literally all it is. Each day filled with dread over my next shift at work. This is why suicide rates are so high. We live to work. We are animals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This should…

What is everyone’s opinion on loud quitting and/or rage quitting?

As an Xennial it horrifies me when people film themselves quitting and put it on social media. I think of all the burned bridges and it gives me instant anxiety. I would never do it. That being said, I can't but help but think of the immense satisfaction someone might get from it (I've done it in my head plenty of times), at least in the short-term. For those who have loud quit and/or rage quit, hell even just participated in the Great Quick during the pandemic, how have things gone since. Do you regret it? Would you do it again?

What do I say in an “exit letter” to the owner of my workplace to tell her to pay more?

Any tips on wording for a letter to my almost ex boss stating how they can’t keep staff due to pay? Long story short I work at a small business, my direct boss has nothing to do with pay, that’s all the owner. Months ago I asked my boss for a raise and was given some change basically. I asked again and was told there just wasn’t any money. My direct boss has been asking the owner for months for raises and has consistently been told there’s absolutely no money for that and they just can’t budget it. So I quit. Then the owner all of a sudden could pay be multiple full dollars more to match my new job and I would be paid more than anyone else. My direct supervisors daughter is my age and works there, she does more than me and was there when the raise…

Hi r/antiwork please help me write my resignation letter to the Florida homeowners insurance industry.

I have an okay boss and team but I refuse to participate and am changing careers. I haven't written a resignation letter in a while and every draft sounds bitter. I need y'all to help me class up the disgust.

Interview lasted 3 minutes.

I had a phone interview for a parts specialist position at a car dealership on Friday. The whole call lasted 3 minutes. Pay on the job posting was listed as 60-75k. (Base rate + commissions) I have a degree in automotive technology. I have experience in the automotive field and in operations in a warehouse environment. In short I’m a great candidate. As soon as I asked for at least $25 an hour, the interviewer rudely said he couldn’t come anywhere close and hung up on me. It’s very discouraging. I don’t think what I was asking for was astronomical. I just want to make a little more to support my family. I’m struggling so hard to get to 25, meanwhile I’m in a high cost of living state so even that number is way too low honestly.

Working at Staples is Hell

I used to work at Staples in Charlotte, NC and it absolutely sucked, especially during the back to school season. Back to school season is the busiest time of year and we commonly needed four cashiers to check people out. After a long day of checking people out I was burned out and ready to head home but unfortunately we have to stay and clean up after we close. Because it was back to school season I’d have a thousand returns to put back at the end of the night and cleaning all of our employees headsets is also a pain in the ass as well as taking out all the trash and vacuuming the entire store. We normally close at 9 but just because we are scheduled to work until 9 doesn’t mean that we clock out at 9. It means that we work a closing shift and we…
