Missed out on deserved promotion – Managers

So I missed out on a management promotion to another collegue junior to me who is friends with the boss, despite me going above and beyond in my job stepping up into management when he has been away over the last 3 years, coaching and mentoring, and generally going above and beyond blah blah blah. Feedback from recruitment process although I missed out was positive (they said if you presented like this for another role you would have got it) and they are now expecting me to work with this new employee and still step up when my boss is away despite this. My boss has been challenging to say the least with history of workplace bullying, and although we are on good terms due to me holding my tongue, hes a pretty poor manager. Boss advised when I was overlooked that movong forward 'informal management' is just as valuable'…

Can my boss punish me for not providing proof of my partners car accident?

For context, this is in Australia I work casual for a restaurant as a kitchen cleaner/dishwasher supervisor. I got a call from my MIL that my partner was in a car accident and that I had to leave. He said it was fine but he wants proof of it as a valid reason for leaving work. I'm not being paid for my absence nor do I want compassionate/family leave for the 5hrs I missed of a shift. He was vague about what exactly he wants me to provide, just some form of proof. I'm not exactly going to take a photo of my partner in hospital to satisfy him and I'm don't feel comfortable sending my partners medical info to the company. It makes me extremely angry that instead of offering any support, they don't care and just want proof for me not being at work for 5hrs. So my…

“I don’t want to hear about morale. It is a privilege to work here!”

During a staff meeting at our manufacturing plant, we were discussing our semi-annual 3day shutdown where we take care of projects, installations, extended maintenance jobs, etc… This was scheduled for end of October. During the meeting, the plant manager decided he suddenly wanted to move the outage to the three days before Thanksgiving Day. Nobody really objected, though you could see people were getting a little disappointed. While continuing to plan, it became apparent that the holiday was going to impose difficulties getting outside contractors to agree to commit that week, plant personnel on vacation or traveling for the holidays, union rules for working around holidays, and things like that. One of the senior engineers just says “Hey, instead of trying to deal with all these variables and unknowns, why don't we schedule the week after or before Thanksgiving Day, plus we won't have to worry about who has to…

Seeking Advice – Possible Legal Action against Former Employer

Sooooo I'm gonna condense a lot of the details but here's the rundown: I recently had an unsettling experience with my former auto employer, and I'm looking for some advice on how to proceed. Let's call the company “XYZ Auto Insurance”. To provide some context, I have over 4 years of experience in the auto insurance field, and I was excited to join , especially since their office was extremely close to my home I started at XYZ Auto Insurance on June 27th and voluntarily resigned on July 13th due to some serious issues. During my time there, I requested more comprehensive training on their computer systems and daily tasks to ensure I could provide the best service to the customers plus I just need to know how the heck to do my job. However, my office manager, let's call him “John Smith,” completely disregarded my concerns and denied my…

Minimum Wage Should Be Adjusted Annually

The current federal minimum wage was set at $7.25 in 2009. Adjusted for inflation it would be $10.31. That’s a loss of almost 30% when compared with inflation.

I thought my manager actually cared

I just had a talk with my manager, he asked me if I was planning on staying at the company after my contract is up in a year. I've known that I wasn't going to stay for a while now, but never outright said it. I know how it goes, if the company knows you're leaving, they have no reason to pretend to care anymore and treat you like garbage. He said he needs to know so they can plan accordingly moving forward, the current plan was to start integrating me into the more advanced work processes, really getting me integrated in the company for long term. Of course, this wouldn't make much sense if I planned on leaving anyway. Now, this manager was actually really nice. He always seemed to care about the employees and stood up for them against the shitty upper management. I trusted him and didn't…

New job keeps requesting more personal info. What’s the deal?!

So I recently got a new job and the manager (not even HR) has kept asking me for my info. As soon as I give my ID that's not good enough so asks for more pictures of said ID (apparently not visible enough even tho it definitely is). HR was apparently too lazy to print out my documents so he requests I print them out and meet him at a gas station to deliver it to him?! That's a flat no on my end. He wants vaccine proof for covid even tho no mandates anymore..I send mt baecode..well thats not good enough either they need pictures of the card from every angle. No info that is usual during the hiring process like SIN # or even bank info are being asked! No company documents to sign and fill oit like wtf. This is a $20/hr job by the way. Nothing…

Are there any non-toxic work environments?

So let me start by saying I like my work. I like what I do. And I like my boss. My JOB, however, I do not care for. I work in an office with some of the most petty, childish, unprofessional people I have ever come across and I'm not sure what to do with this. The gossip, the back-biting, the lack of courtesy is astounding. Today, my senior (she's not my boss or my supervisor technically, but I have been told she's next up in the chain of command) heard from someone that someone said that I said I do all the work. Yes, that is ridiculous enough, the fact that I even know that this is an issue. An adult would have either written it off as gossip, or come to me directly. Is that was she did? NOPE. She though it would…
