Is it normal to not be earning comission for the first 3 months?

My sales position (pays 15.50 which is min wage in Canada) and the listing promised comission. However, upon getting the job, we don't actually earn comission until the probation period has ended which is 3-4 months. I work 30+ hours per week, I have been here for almost a month and they have pretty much left me to sell, cash, etc. I don't feel like it's properly compensated in a way because I have been making sales that none of the people on the floor would have otherwise due to language barrier that they would otherwise have, and my manager specifically asks for me whenever someone comes in asking to speak to me. The comission that would go to me from those sales end up going to whoever was last logged in to the system.

Love/Hate “relationship” with Work has lost its love

So, I thought I was secure in my job. My position was one that’s important to the day to day workings of my store, I’m well liked and respected, and I’m a wealth of information. Wednesday, I got a call from my Store Manager. She had to read me something that was emailed in. All full time positions with our company except the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager are being eliminated. I had a choice, accept a part time regular team member position at minimum wage or a severance package. I had about two days to make a decision and it took them a day to send me the info on the severance. I was a full time key-holder with benefits and PTO and had worked for this company for 18 years. The offer to allow me to continue to work for the company at freaking rock bottom without…

Can someone explain why my fast-food job is complaining about labor and costs being too high, while constantly hiring new employees?

Sorry if this is the wrong sub, I will delete if needed. For context, I'm 17, and was working there for about a little over 3 weeks now. It's a pizza place. I was hired recently, and while I was hired, I saw two new people come in. It has a sign saying “HELP WANTED!” and sounded desperate. And no, it's not a toxic environment, everyone there is pretty nice. But, I'm noticing how the manager keeps saying they're using too much on labor and food and blah blah blah, while having a bunch of new people constantly getting hired. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it make more sense to just use your current employees, as new hires are liabilities until they know what they're actually doing? I'm even getting messages saying to not show up to specific shifts now. Can someone here with more experience explain why…

Trying to feel better about leaving my job

For some background I work at a place doing laser hair removal. I love working with lasers and it’s good experience for what I’d eventually like to move into doing within my industry. The job I’m currently at is -okay- my co workers are nice for the most part and I like my boss well enough. The problems however are that we all get paid very little for our industry standard. The company keeps us all at part time so that nobody can get benefits or qualify for pto or anything like that. My boss also is extremely strict about us not being allowed to call out and I quote “ unless you’re in the hospital” I actually had to go to the hospital once and they asked me if I could come in after??? I ended up interviewing with another company that’s going to give me a 10$ per…

Just not excited about starting my new job…

According to everyone, I should be happy. I am apparently lucky to have gotten this job with such ease. But honestly I’m not feeling particularly happy or lucky. It’s just another place to waste the hours of my life and sell my time for a paycheck. I’d rather make more and work less, but unfortunately I need the benefits more than the peace. Do not know what I was planning to get out of this other than to vent to ppl who might understand instead of just seeing me an ungrateful for not being an excited wage slave.

I’m still on this old employer’s mailing list and they’re trying to tell people they just can’t manage money while paying them less than McDonalds

Pretty self explanatory. This was a company where I took care of disabled children and helped them learn skills like speech and using the bathroom themselves. They paid us only 14$/hour with zero gas or travel coverage while expecting us to drive all over the Phoenix area from person to person's house each hour. This meant days would often consist of only 4 hours of paid time, while also having us on the road for several unpaid hours to get from house to house. For reference, fast food workers here tend to make at least 16$/hour. Hitting us with this “you just need money management classes” when their paychecks tended to be about 300$/week is honestly the most insulting thing I've heard from any employer
