RANT: To keep it short and sweet, my job sucks. They promised all these sweet benefits and commissions and all this other stuff, telling me if I sold enough devices I could make an extra 2-3 dollars an hour with commissions. I took the job. Shit was not sweet. They don’t offer holiday pay (most jobs I’ve had did offer holiday pay. If they didn’t, you weren’t required to work) yet require you to work holidays. Only it seems they pick and choose which holidays we work because we HAD to work on Memorial Day, HAD to work on Father’s Day, but 4th of July? Take a day off on us pal, and you’ve earned it. (As if Memorial Day and Independence Day don’t go hand in hand) Business is slow because our prices are too high and we’re charging people for services that we don’t really “need” to and…

Logged in ready for work at 9am
I was speaking to a relative who is contracted and paid to work 9am-5:30pm. They work in a call centre. They mentioned their job requires them to be “logged in and ready” for work at 9am, i.e ready to take calls at 9am. However their PC’s take around 20 minutes to do this login process and load up all the systems before they’re able to start taking calls. Therefore they have to be at work 20 minutes before 9am to allow for this. We are both of the opinion that this logging on process is the company’s problem, or that at the least the employees should be paid for coming in early, what do you think?
My employer is so full of shit
Kind of just a rant here. First, I work nights. I won't give hours, but it is a small company, so I am literally on shift by myself. I spend 30 hours a week in the office alone. I am not allowed to work from home. My job can easily be done from home. I am actually a touch more productive that way. Other employees who are on day shift are allowed to WFH, just not me. I have been on nights for over a year, and have proven to be trustworthy. Yet the owner of the company just won't budge. It get's worse though. We are bleeding team members. We have lost 5 team members, and have not replaced them. We have no plans to replace them. The owner doesn't want to. What he does want to do is sign more clients. The already stretched thin staff is even…
I have raised the issue with my manager a few times and although he has acted impartial, he has agreed with me on the points that the coworker's behaviour of staring, lingering and asking me questions that feel borderline stalking (such as, where I have you been, I haven't seen you in a long time, will you be back here more often?) I have seen my manager with this guy on a smoke break and heard that they went to see an exhibition together. After finding this out, I don't feel comfortable with my line manager handling this and requested this be moved to someone else (in this case my manager's manager). I'm starting to get very anxious about how my manager handled it from the jump, if things have become worse for me I fear that the creepy coworker has felt emboldened to continue his behaviour. Now initally when…
The big bosses at my former employer shoved a project down my team's throat almost a year ago which made no sense for us to work on. I called this out – a lot – and after about 2 months it was called off due to some changes elsewhere in the org. But at the start of 2023 it came back, and I spent almost 3 more solid months working on it and hating every second. Eventually gave my notice and finished a few weeks ago, just no faith in management left. The project was 2 months overdue owing to delays in the org (though my part was finished) so I handed my work to a colleague and wished them luck. I was not the only senior staffer to quit as a result of this project. Just found out today the project is off again, for good this time. I'm…
Are you expecting me to work 24*7? Yesss.. So will I be getting paid for all th shifts? * No comments *
Context if needed. I'm your average college drop out who couldn't make it there for one of many reasons. I guess that's not too important but it's been roughly 10 years since I graduated high school and the only work I've ever done mainly boils down to factory and warehouse stuff. It was not too bad at first to be honest but the more wise I became to all the bullshit the more irritated I got and the more frustrating it became as well. It used to be not a big deal for me to bounce from one job to the next but it's different now. Especially since there's people who need me to be able to pay the bills in my life now. It's been different since the pandemic, I think, it wasn't until then that I stopped being able to hold a job for…
due to my medical conditions I was unable to finish my college degree so I cannot get hired at any normal office positions as most of it in my city require minimum undergrad degree. I don’t want to be NEET so I’m working at a second hand bookshop as cashier/mover/graphic designer/staff. As the title says I earn 20 yuan an hour, and in this city you need at least 5000 yuan a month to survive (without any kind of pensions). I’m currently living with my parents cuz I couldn’t afford to live alone. I work 6-9 hour a day about 15-20 days a month. It doesn’t sound much but my job HAS NO BREAK TIME. I have maximum 20 mins to finish my lunch and that’s it. I need to face costumers and do the heavy labor job at same time. People are not very kind here so the cashier…
