I worked at a cafe with a boss who treated us all like thieves and slackers and yelled at us about everything. I was warned when I started working there not to take it personally when he yells at me, he’s just like that with everyone (what a guy.) This new girl started working and showed up for her first day of training. What does the boss do? He yells at her for no reason, of course. So she quit on the spot and never came back. The boss was flabbergasted. I left about a month later and a lot of other coworkers quit before then too. No idea how that place stays open with the turnaround they have there but I have so much respect for that girl who just left. Didn’t stand for mistreatment even for a second. Hope she’s doing well.

I have a bachelor's degree. I've worked in the TV news industry for 5 years as a video producer and/or editor. I have the technical skills to be working somewhere else, making a lot more money, but I just can't seem to get out of local news. I make like $23k a year after taxes. It's just not enough. But the search for a better job is making me severely depressed. I've only had one interview this year. I've tried expanding out to different cities, but most jobs (if they're not scams) don't pay enough to support me and my fiance to live there. Just so sick of the way things are and I'm not sure how I can feel less stuck.
Working through break time???
I just started a technician job where I work in a team of 5. My working hours are 8-5 with an unpaid hour for lunch from 12-1. Everyone seems desperate to get back to working once they've eaten and most are back doing work by 12:30. Can I emphasise the unpaid hour part. I've had a wide range of different jobs and ones where I'd even get told off for starting work again before my break ended. So this seems insane to me. If I'm there for 9 hours I wanna take my sweet time on my hour off, is this usual? I don't want to crumble to peer pressure but don't want to piss anyone off as this is my first week on the job. What do people do on their lunch breaks? Thanks
My husband has been working for his employer for 3.5 years. He hasn’t had any issues until 6 months ago when his supervisor seemed to suddenly turn on him. She started complaining about his performance to upper management and writing him negative performance reviews. She told him that he’s making too many mistakes that she’s having to go back and fix. He asked for specific example so that he doesn’t make those mistakes again. She refused to give any and instead sent her complaint to upper management. He is now being told that his performance needs to improve or they’ll have to take action. He’s asked multiple times for examples of what he’s doing wrong but they keep refusing to clarify. Today he reached out for help on a project and she reprimanded him for it. He doesn’t know what mistakes he’s making, so he’s asking for help reviewing his…
No Pay Increase This Year
So there we go, annual compensation statement was provided to me some months ago, was told performance was one down from top level which is like the norm for me, year on year. So ratings are like 1-4, with 4 being best and that being a percentage for salary increase. We were told in the past month or so that there is no compensation increase this year. We do our annual reviews and mid-year reviews but honestly what is the point? I have mid-year review tomorrow and really cannot be arsed and to be honest, I've never felt more like telling it as it is.
I hate work life
I honestly can’t stand work life. I’ve been working for a year and a half after finishing school a little while before that and can’t stand work life. So many parts of the corporate world bother me on multiple levels. For one, every company wants to drain as much out of you as they can. They don’t care about you or your personal life. If they could get you to work 24/7 they would. I could probably write an entire thesis on what’s wrong with corporate America, like how we spend more time with our coworkers than we do with our families. Or how we have a 5 day work week when there’s only 7 days in a week (makes no sense in my opinion). Or how if you have a child, you can’t pick them up from school and have to pay someone else to take care of your…
