I heard of so many people with 50k in college debt that can’t find any jobs that pay more then $15 an hour with their degree
Month: July 2023
I grew up in the 90s and 2000s. I remember watching music videos and movies and thinking that being an adult would be absolutely rad. As an adult, I'm shattered. The youth today watch hundreds of different YouTubers and “influencers” spend thousands to hundreds of thousands on a random YouTube everyday. They probably think being an adult will be just like that. Can't even imagine the levels of depression our youth will face once they realize that they will barely scrape by in most cases, even with a college education. I'm worried most of them will be in a complete state of despair, even worse than my generation. All while not even including climate change and state of our environment on top of it. Godspeed.
I am an old man. I have been with this company for quite a few years. Today I asked permission to take a single day of PTO over a month in advance (laughable) and was asked to provide additional information as to WHY I need this day off. Why does my employer need this information? Why do I owe anyone an explanation on why or how I choose to use my EARNED PTO? I can’t help but feel any information I provide would be used against me…
I had two interviews in two days. Both jobs posted on Indeed. I applied to the first one which was posted as a position in my town. Home health care. It had the exact hours listed. When I drove to the interview, they sat me down and said the job was actually 40 miles the other direction and that it was overnight with Dementia patients (not listed). I told them I am not interested and that this was a misleading posting. I reported the listing on Indeed for wrong location and wrong hours. This morning was my second interview. Almost the same thing happened. Front desk position. Hours are 2pm to 10pm in the post. When I go to this interview, they tell me it's actually more of a security position and the hours are 10pm to 6am. The pay rate is listed as $15 an hour when they tell…
Put in for a new job at work that I've already been doing on an interim/temp basis for a few months after a colleague got promoted(they are now my boss). They definitely earned the promotion and I'm very happy for them. Was just told I met the initial cut-off for the job, and it was basically mine, but my boss' boss said a pay increase wasn't possible because it was considered a lateral move. This is true on paper, but in reality, there is a lot more responsibility for the new job Told my boss not to bother interviewing me in that case because I won't take on the additional responsibilities in the long term without a matching pay increase. He said he'd talk to some other people and get back to me. I'm in the US. I do not work for a private company. That's all I can tell…
Time off not approved, took it anyway
Over a month ago I requested a week off, this week, to welcome my grand daughter into the world and help my daughter and son-in-law out for their first week of baby-ness. I work in a summer tourist destination and in a supervisory position. I have worked for this company for 4 years always taking my vacation time in the off-season. As a supervisor, I have never said no to an employees time off request no matter the time of year because I realize these people have lives that don't revolve around the company and, dammit, they earn their time off! Well, none of the managers approved my time-off request which started yesterday. They never even mentioned having seen the request and never asked me why I wanted it. I sent a few emails reminding the teams that I was leaving and asking for coverage… no replies. Sunday evening, I…
