I am in my final week at my current company. I have 55 hours of unused vacation hours “available” to me. I say that because they are dragging their feet on paying it out because I used more than I earned and now owe them hours back. The thing is, I was never provided any sort of earning schedule. The handbook says I accrue vacation days annually. My pay stubs say annual accrual. Now, when I’m trying to leave, they are claiming that I don’t accrue annually and it’s throughout the year. What can I do? What legal action do I maybe try to pursue? This is not an insignificant amount of money for me so I need to get that money. TIA
I hate where I work
Title says it all. I love what I do and not to be cocky but I’m very good at it. I work in a shop where the “lead man” doesn’t give a fuck and doesn’t care about the department at all. About a year ago I talked with the plant manager about taking over the department, and laid out what I have done and can do to improve our area and showed a list of everything. And I never threw the lead man under the bus because I won’t do that, it feels wrong. And he basically told me he knows I can do so much but he doesn’t want to step on the old guys toes and to wait till he retires in a few years. So ever since then I’ve stopped trying and doing the extra work to push our department. I still show up everyday and do…
“Include nothing but your name and exactly 3 bullet points that are 10 words or less. I want zero other words in the email, bonus points if you don’t even put your name.” (what the hell???) “We’re not really this strict, but if directions can’t be followed, it’s not going to work. Yes, this is ridiculous, but if you follow directions now, trust is formed quickly, and your potential will be fully unleashed later. My goal is to tap into your talent.” Looking into the company they seem legit, but this sounds like they want extremely obedient employees who question nothing and just do what they are told. I know that’s what many companies want, but at least they aren’t that boldly upfront about it. Very weird and unprofessional to put this in a job posting imo.
Hi y’all! For the past two years, I’ve been dealing with crazy health issues. I’m not medically cleared to work yet, but soon will be. My credit is completely shot, still waiting for disability to approve me, and overall I’m so tired of the US. I know moving to EU won’t solve all my problems but I hear that it’s much better than the US. Do you guys have any experience/ suggestions? I don’t know what type of work I could do that allows me to work from anywhere in the world but traveling is a huge priority. Thanks!
So I was making $17hr. Got a raise to $18hr. I’m full time. They reduced me to 4 days a week and said it’s too hot to work a full week. I have 32 hours of PTO. So shouldn’t be an issue with me using it on the “extra” days I’m not working right? If they say no then they are just cutting hours to save money. Such bs.
Our union agreement has recently expired and is up for re-negotiations. Members are pushing for a 10% cost of living adjustments because of inflation and our health insurance increased and doubled our premium. The municipality came back and agreed to 4% COLA for the first year and 3% COLA for the next two years. For me it's better than the regular 2% we were getting for the past 3 years. However entry level new hires are protesting and withholding their votes since they want a huge bump in their pay because they are on the lowest salary step. I also think that being new employees they do not have the background on the negotiations and that prolonging the agreement is actually beneficial to the municipality not having to pay out any increases. This can also mean that the negotiations will be pushed back for another six months leaving us with…
I recently graduated with my masters degree- I was so excited that this job basically fell into my lap because I knew the hiring manager. I’d have a job doing something I enjoyed at a well-known university. Regardless, I was gonna have a job when I graduated! That’s the goal!! Little did I know this hiring manager is notorious across the university for being a bitch to work with. They’re a workaholic and expect everyone on the team to follow suit. Our team is working 70+ hour work weeks through a monsterous schedule for a program we’re in charge of. We have to stay on campus during the summer, even though I said in my interview that I would commute since I have a life and family and can’t just drop everything for the summer (obviously I said it a little more professionally than that). Helping this program is literally…
