Month: July 2023
For those of you who may not know, in 2017, in Brazil, there was a labor legislation reform. A lot of new rules gave a lot of flexibility… for bosses. Among these rules, two are relevant: A company can keep you “floating” for 3 months, deciding whether or not you are able to work for them. A company is not required to pay you minimum wage per month, if, let's say, your work hours are halved from the usual 8h/day. However, after 1 year and a half, they are legally obligated to pay you minimum wage. They fired me at month 17. Seventeen months I was working in the art department. I localized about 2 games (which includes redesigning a lot of materials using the original assets, and having to come up my own sometimes), and made the entire art material of a game (box, cards, tokens, handbook, etc). All…
Hi, I'm in the UK and I see so many posts on here, mainly from the service industry, where someone submits there notice and then the manager schedules them for shifts after that period, or even threatens punishment for not turning up. So if the managers can't keep track of replacing staff or finding cover for shifts, then what do they actually do?
I’ve been working since I was 14, at a few companies that…were not good. From not allowing us to drink water to not paying me minimum wage (even the one for people under 18) to scheduling me alone with my physically violent coworker, I just kinda thought…all jobs were gonna suck? I recently got a job at a local waterpark. They pretty much only hire teenagers, which led me to think they probably wouldn’t have anyone who knew the laws, but they’ve been so nice. We get 30 minute paid breaks every 2 hours, and the managers walk around to make sure we have everything we need. They buy us all popsicles which we can have for free (because it’s hot and they don’t want us getting hurt). They pay us above minimum wage, and they let us take time off whenever we need it. Some guy came in on…
A friend asked me to setup a security camera on his phone. When it comes to install the application, Google Pay says “management of your device does not let you install applications” (or something like that). So I ask him “do you have applications for your work?” — Yes, I have my e-mail and my schedule. — Why did you give them your phone? They essentially stole your find from you. — Well, I need to have my schedule and my e-mail… — Well, they should give you a phone instead of stealing it from you.
I was terminated from my sales job about two weeks ago. Crazy CEO and I butted heads a bit, he treated us like trash, worked us to death, and I was finally tired of it. I knew he owed me $9k in commissions, based on my employment agreement, so I figured worst case he fires me, I collect my commissions, PTO payout, and unemployment and I am good for a bit, so I just stopped taking his shit. Well surprise surprise, I was terminated and now he is withholding my commissions. Based on my employment agreement I was due 15% of $60k in closed business for the quarter (he terminated me exactly one week before EOQ). I am in Texas. I called the state DOL, and it seems they do have to pay me, so I am filing a claim. Anyone have experience with something like this? It is infuriating…
I work in a drug and alcohol treatment center. My boss has ultimate power and control in that place. Nobody can make a decision without her approval. She’s very insecure and uses that power to exert her dominance on other people. I’ve recently come into the crosshairs of her wrath. She is making decisions about a Client to control me. I told him he has the right to file a grievance, and he also has the right to call different agencies in the state but he is reluctant to do that because he thinks it will make it it worse for him. He asked me for a copy of a written policy, and I didn’t have it, so I asked someone in the admissions department to get it for me. She found out about that, called him into her office, and asked him why he’s sneaking around behind her back…
Anyways, this lady is in her 70s and still has to work in order to pay her bills. I feel really bad but this is the state of the united states now I guess
I need a change of pace
I currently work at what I originally thought was my “dream job.” It took me 6 years to work up to this position, and I’ve been here now for 2 years. This is a sales position in an outdoor industry that allows me to gain access to gear and destination locations. It’s nothing like I thought it would be and it’s draining me emotionally, mentally, and physically with all the travel I have to do. On top of that I am only making $60k a year with very little chance to move up or make more. I’ve been in a slump for the last two weeks and I think I need to change of direction. I’m considering going back to school for something more technical like programming or coding. Very broad I know, but I have a computer mindset and am willing to learn just about anything. I don’t need…
