[Success Story] I went after my workplace for exploiting me and I got a minor victory

Long story short: I’m a teacher at a private school. The school tried not paying me and contesting my online hours (we are already grossly underpaid, btw), then they misclassified me as an independent contractor instead of an employee so that i am not covered by employment laws and so they can avoid taxes. I went after them in every way possible, from making claims with the federal government to the provincial government. I threatened to hit their wallet. As someone who can’t afford a lawyer, I used every free resource available to me. All the meanwhile I was still working for them, while not getting paid, because i was advised to continue working if I wanted to have this fight. After two months of struggle and them financially draining me, I finally got the call. They gave me my money and correctly classified me, and told me July 18…

Advice needed regarding PTO and resignation.

I worked as a clinical supervisor for a large inpatient residential program. I decided to resign because my supervisor wouldn’t listen to me regarding staffing needs and my mental health was taking a big toll. I did my own 2 week time study to show more support was needed. She never looked at it. When I started she was out on leave for four months- and out all the time. I never had any proper guidance or support. So our handbook said I had to give four weeks notice. I went to her and shared about the job impacting my mental health. She asked for two weeks. I offered three- was going to be 6/30 but she asked me to stay until 7/3. I agreeded via email and in person. My resignation letter said the 30th prior to her asking me to stay on. A few days later I went…

When Your Boss Turns Your Pajama Paradise into Cubicle Catastrophe

Alright, gather 'round, my fellow keyboard warriors. Buckle up because we're about to take a wild ride from the comfort of my couch to the dreadful land of morning commutes and shared refrigerators. So, here's the scoop – I landed this cushy gig working entirely remote, right? I'm talking “in-my-pajamas-at-noon” type of remote. Life's great, unicorns are prancing, and I’m already making a nest in my cozy home-office setup. I'm so remote, I can't even spell “office”. Then BAM! First week in, the powers-that-be drop a bomb. They announce a 10% force reduction and a shift to a ‘hybrid’ work model. Now, I've always been a fan of hybrids – cars, animals, heck, even tomatoes. But this? This is straight-up tomfoolery. Remember my “no need to come to office more than once a month” clause? Well, that evaporated faster than my dreams of becoming a pro-bowler. Suddenly, I'm being herded…

My boss is the worst

So I work in eldercare in Sweden where we go home to old people and help them out but it's stressful af and some old people are not fun to deal with and I'm 0retty sure a lot of people here know what type of old people I'm referring to Well if the work itself isn't hard and annoying enough then my boss takes the cake as if I call in sick one day because I've had a rough night of constant stomach pain and throwing up then she gets angry at me for being sick Like yesterday morning I called in that I couldn't come to work because I had spent the night throwing up and she said: you have an obligation to work) (no I Don't as it doesn't say anything about that in the contract, only real thing that says in the contract is that I keep…

Bereavement Dispute

My department is currently shifting people around and as of last Friday I now report to someone new. On Monday, I received news that my fiancés aunt passed away and so i immediately let my (former) supervisor know that I may need to take Friday off depending if that is when the funeral is. Yesterday we find out the funeral will be this Friday so I go ahead and book my bereavement leave for Friday so I can be with my fiancés family at the wake. Well, this morning I receive a message from my new supervisor asking me why I am out on Friday. I explained to him the situation and apologized for not letting him know immediately on Monday as I forgot I now report to him. I then let him know that my request for bereavement should be in his inbox as I requested the day. He…

Yearly Pay Raise

Rant/Advice My company does yearly raises without any sort of yearly review, so they just hit you with whatever pay the manager “feels” is best. My manager literally told me the whole process, and it’s solely up to the individual managers. It isn’t based off merit, or discussed amongst any other managers (we have at least 2 managers per district/area, so I don’t technically have only one boss/manager). We are a fairly larger company that makes hundreds of millions each year. I was told I was getting a 3% raise (which was the same as last year, and didn’t fuss because it was my first raise at this company), and to my surprise it ended up being 4%. I was a little (heavy emphasis on a little” lol) excited until I did the math to realize it’s a whole whopping $1 raise.. Even after being all talked up “Everyone has…

Any Struggling Auto Techs Out There?

I've got ten years experience, nine of those loyal with one brand and one dealership. Spent thousands on tools and continuing to buy new tools to keep up with new cars. Went to technical college, spend a lot of time researching and learning about the new cars that come out and the new problems that arise. Have to do many repairs for the first time without good repair instructions or any leadership- “just figure it out” – under flat rate pay. They recently took all of our new/used car work and gave it to another team comprised of techs that have been here 1 year or less. Last couple years been making less and being asked to do more for the advisors. I mostly do oil changes, we are forced to work 6 day work weeks once a month with no guarantee of work or pay, I am struggling to…
