Promotion with 6% raise

I know this is more than most people get but I honestly thought that I could expect 10-20% salary increase with a promotion especially since my male counterpart in the same roll I was promoted into makes 11k more. Do I email HR asking to discuss if compensation is flexible?? I live in California so salary ranges for rolls must be available to employees but since we are at a startup they have been “working on the framework” and it should be done in 2 weeks.. 8.5 months into the year and they “almost” have it. I am someone who is very valuable to the company because the throughput I am capable of and we are a very small. How do I start the conversation without appearing ungrateful?

After 99 Years, Yellow Heads for Bankruptcy. What Went Wrong?

Nothing went “wrong”, Capitalism will always fail in some way like this, it's just a gamble how long each entity lasts. It's got it all, bailouts, strikes, federal funding, federal regulations and their overturn. Today's episode: https://www.wsj.com/podcasts/ After 99 Years, Yellow Heads for Bankruptcy. What Went Wrong?

We need to fight for Work From Home policies

I worked from home for 3 and a half years working in the Tax industry, specifically, technical support for tax softwares. Throughout that 3 years I was paid way over what I would be making in office, had more time for myself (even raised a kitten) and started my mental health journey with the extra time. I luckily also had insanely good management and they were completely fine with disagreements and compromise and they GENUINELY advocated for us Front Line workers going through the day in and day out of our jobs. Well a new CEO came, and this article is the embodiment of what is wrong with corporations and how they continue to overstep their boundaries. I understand that the Pandemic was a lot of the reason why WFH was introduced because they would rather have people working at home than not working at all. Well now that the…

Overtime paid in cash. I’m burning this motherfucker down

So the place I work for lets us work as many hours and skip lunches for extra cash as we want, the catch is any overtime is edited off our timecards and that time is paid in cash at regular pay rate. It's all recorded on a timekeeping app we have on our phones. I make sure to screenshot my unedited hours before they go through and delete the overtime. I screenshot the edited times as well. The edited times have a little notification next to them showing they have been edited by an admin, essentially leaving a very clear paper trail. I fucking hate this place. I run as hard as I can all day to have my lead question my turnaround time and passive aggressively call me worthless and lazy. I'm waiting on my first callout from a union I joined. When that happens I'm giving my boss…

My fellow labourers

Today I slacked off at work and it was majestic. My supervisor was called away for something the last few days and I used most of my time to sleep on the job. I would find a room that people were not often using and just sleep there. I still got all my work done, but today I managed to catch up on some sleep. Remember to sleep at work folks, it really helps.

How common are 4 10 hour work days

I'm about to start working towards a certification from the AAPC in medical coding and billing. I'd like to find a job, preferably remote, but otherwise is fine, when I'm done with all of the AAPC requirements. How likely is it that I can find a job where I can only work 4, 10 hour days, or work whenever as long as I can get everything I'm supposed to do done?

Not scheduled for a week, then scheduled against my availability

To start I’m located in DE I’ve been working this job for 8 months now and I also worked there for a year in 2019. During July I lost 3 family members, 2 due to a fire. With this happening my babysitter (family member) is unable to watch my daughter during the day. I told my department manager I would need to work afternoon shifts only and anytime on weekends due to my dad’s work schedule. Last week I was not scheduled at all and told by the store manager it was because I called out (one funeral and one no sitter). I repeated to him that my availability changed, department boss knew, and that I had lost 3 people in my life in the span of 2 weeks. He told me I would be added to the schedule for that week but never was. I was scheduled this upcoming…

I’ve been bullied at work, while the CEO was smiling.

I (F27) work at a startup with just 20 people, so no HR. I work here for about half a year and I’m heading one of the departments. This situation happened with another head of department that was just hired a month back, “Susan” (F, late 50s). She started really strong and I admired her confidence and even offered to help with some of her projects. All went well before I realized that I’m doing half of her work, and she’s not even asking for help, she’s demanding things from me, even though she’s not my boss, but my peer. When I started to get blocked on things last week, I contacted both Susan and the CEO (M40s) in the same thread, but they didn’t get back to me. I followed up earlier this week, but I felt like Susan just got irritated so she started sending me some passive…

F two weeks. I’m done. TODAY

Today was insane. For the most part my coworker and I really busted our butts and gave it everything we had; even in the scorching heat. Unfortunately everything went down when we had a flex of people during the lunch rush. There wasn't a moment where we could breathe as everyone and their cousin decided to stop by. We couldn't stabilize ourselves despite giving everything that we could, but it was hard to meet that demand. fast forward: the manager states that he shouldn't have to monitor morons to get the job done. My co-worker quit on the spot and contemplated following suit. This upcoming week was my final week from the two week notice and I could use the money from final paycheck. She had broken down with him and once I had time to speak with the manager I broke down. Even if I had to fight the…
