at this point, I am done with the system. We keep getting told things will get better, or that it will improve, and it’s just getting worse and worse and worse. And just to make fun of it. The billionaires are doing a boxing match? Talk about bread and circus. at this point, I’m kind of scared for what’s going to happen over the next couple of years. You literally cannot afford to do anything. any house that’s reasonably priced is practically gutted on the inside, has probably had squatters for weeks, and is almost definitely stripped of all copper. At this point, we joke around, so you can find the most reasonably priced shit hole When my partner and I try to search for houses. I go to the food food bank almost every week, and I’ve noticed that the cars that are coming to the food bank are…

Cut to that gif of the guy going “You sure about that?! You sure about that?!”.
Weird workplace practices
So, the company I work for has been great so far, besides the obvious pay difference between men and women, which might ultimately be the reason I leave. I can't really make a living in the state I reside in on the wage provided, granted I had no previous experience but there has been no update. Anyways not what the post is about, so we recently hired someone new, and they got a hat. people who go out and make sales get hats apparently, oh and people who work outside also get hats. People in my line of work do not, which the reasoning given was people who go out and make sales need to rep the company, but do they not want all their employees repping it? I don't know this gave me the ick. Not sure how to feel about it.
I'll preface this by saying that despite growing up very poor, I have blessed with alot of great opportunities in life. I have a very supportive family, I have an amazing partner, I own a home, and I have a college degree. However, if I had even half of those things right now in my life, I think I'd barely be surviving in this society. I know many people are feeling the burden of uncertain economics of the last decade pluz and I know that many here think that this is only the beginning. It makes me so sad to see others struggle but I think the saddest part, is that most if not all my peers have been struggling since before they were even legal working age. In many ways, it's all they have ever known and most have nothing to show for it. I won't ramble too much…
I’m so tired rant / vent
I (21M) work for a giant retail chain in Oregon, it's a union job but I break my damn body every day at work for paychecks that range from 240 to 500 a week, I'm a courtesy Clerk so I'm the one getting all the carts at the store, I'm the one restocking the 24 / 32 packs of water, I'm the one running 3 departments in a day and typically I'm the only one who is on the clock as a Courtesy Clerk outside of a few hours overlap. I'm so depressed and broken down and I just want to quit life at this point, I'm fortunate that I have a roof over my head, and food if I'm hungry. In an average shift I'm outside in the sun in 100 degree weather for half of my shift, if not more, I typically unload 2500 to 4500 LBS of…
Ghosted after extending a job offer
I am a college student that was looking for a job that would pay more in my area. My current Job was nice and convenient but I was looking to move to something different. On June 8th I submitted an application for a bilingual sales associate for Cox Communication. After about a week I got a response that reached out for an initial phone interview that I passed with what I thought were flying colors. About a week later, I went in for the in person interview. It went well and again there was no indication that I was doing anything wrong and was told they would reach out in a couple days for an answer if I got the job or not. I communicated I would be out of town for a week and they said it was no problem. 2 weeks passed and the manager finally reached back…
Idk if this is the right place to post this, but I work in fast food, and although I have no problems with most of my coworkers, one of the managers keeps harassing me. Everytime I mess up, she yells at me, and sometimes hits me. The craziest part is she's done this in front of customers and coworkers and no one says anything. She also mocks me, makes fun of my voice, makes comments on my appearance, asks inappropriate questions, and spread a rumor that me and another coworker are hooking up despite knowing I have a boyfriend. She knows I have a boyfriend because she asked if I had one, then asked his race and if we have sex. I didn't want to say yes, so she told everyone I was a virgin. When my boyfriend was out of town, she said I should cheat on him, and…
Hello everyone, God willing, by the end of December I should be graduated. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice to get here and I am very proud of my achievement. However, I am also terrified. My degree is in Theology and Philosophy, and before anyone says “well you should have went STEM dumbass” I TRIED. When I first embarked on this journey I took STEM classes and even entertained going into the trades, but something about that subject never engaged my interest. Somewhere along the way I discovered that I love liberal arts, in particular Theology and Philosophy. I made a decision that a degree was better than no degree and fully committed ti studying a field I throughly love and enjoy. I have a 3.8 GPA (my high-school GPA was like a 1.3 I barely graduated and no big university would take me. Had to go…
Sorry for the long post, but this was one hell of an experience for me that happened about 20 years ago, and I really hope it isn't something that continues to happen today. Curious if this has happened to anyone else? (I hope not) I was so excited when I landed an interview for a “Sports Marketing Professional” opening for a company that provided “marketing solutions for local sports franchises” in the Maryland area. The proposed salary range for the position was extremely lucrative for a young guy like me at the time, $100,000+ after built in bonuses, etc. I was told ahead of time that the interview was a lengthy process with a lot of candidates, and it was likely going to take several hours, so be prepared for a long day. I was told to, “Dress to impress” and be prepared for an exhausting full day of interviews.…
Please help- compensation & HR nightmare
Hello! I made this post (linked) a while back. I’ve now been working at my job, in the same role for over 8 months. I had my 6 month review & it was cut short & ended with my boss going on a 2 week vacation. At the 7 month mark I asked for documentation of my review, my job duty expectations (still have not seen those) & to discuss a change in compensation. When asked about compensation my boss said “i don’t know who does that” (my boss has been here for 15+ years)..I went to HR 2x: once HR ignored me & said they do not have time. Second time HR came back & told me they cannot give me a compensation change because the additional duties i described are “within the scope of my job expectations” to which I kindly reminded HR- i have NEVER received, so…
