Iam from Germany and working in a middle sized software company. I joined the company last year in April, so I’m there for a year. I’m proficient in multiple web programming languages and able to take lead position. The company is in need of people like me because their old staff is specialist in an antique Technology only one project can utilize. Most of them don’t want to learn something new or don’t know anything beside that. I was hired to fix this problem by starting new projects, lead them and teach others.
So far it was a bumpy ride. I was so close to quit, when I got a really good project which is fun. I decided to stay at least 1-2 years because the project was fun enough and I could learn new skills.
At the end of last year they published the numbers and said that there is a plus of 100k that will be used to raise the salary, because of covid they haven’t received a raise last year.
Today was a fat slap in my face. They decided to split the personal talks about the company , the project and general mood from the talk about money. Reasonable to get some insights without the fear that someone will get less money only for an honest opinion.
My chef , in general an ambitious guy you can talk to, said that I’m not even a year in the company and shouldn’t get a raise ( wtf in a week I’m there for a year). But because of my experience and skills I will receive a generous offer of 500€. Added to my yearly salary of 55k. After taxes and everything I would receive 18€ plus every month ( we get paid monthly in Germany). I couldn’t fill my tank with that.
He said this to me in a talk that was 3 min and 32s long. In the personal talk he praised my performance and that I’m the technical expert in the company. I estimate new projects, construct the architecture and lead two projects. No one in the company is able to do it because they lack the experience.
All this was only 500€ a year / 18€ a month worth. I didn’t get a chance to say my own wish, i had to interrupt him to say it.
Fuck them. I will leave them. There were red flags left and right, but the new project was awesome and the colleagues also. But this was just a big insult.
The company lost many people in the last year, mainly of the not needed skill sets, but also good ones. They are in dire need for software devs – otherwise they cannot staff their projects anymore and will loose them. And they decided to fuck one of their only good ones.
