I wanted to share with you guys.
Change is good, its possible to improve and get a better position.
Last July I quit my job of 15 years because according to my boss there was no money for my raise.
I received a 1.5 % raise after months of complaints and arguing with them. I quit. We were supposed to give one months notice and I didn't. After my boss gave me that joke of a raise, I finished my day, picked up all my stuff, dropped my Laptop and Id at the I.T department.
No months notice.
No knowledge transfer.
No Resignation letter.
No informing H.R or boss or co workers.
I just left….
I wasn't the best employee, but I did my job, got there on time and delivered within the schedule
At the old company we used 3 specialized software's and even though anyone can learn how to use it, you need to be certified and it takes time. I know I hurt them when I left.
A couple of weeks after I quit I interviewed at my current company.
We did 1 interview via Teams and I was super honest with them, in particular with the H.R manager. When asked about why I left my old job after 15 years I was truthful and said the main reason was economics, I told them I have a ton of skills and knowledge in my area and felt I was not compensated fairly . The HR person was surprised with my honesty and said we would be InTouch.
I know its never a good idea to say that you care only about money, however I wanted a fresh start based on the truth.
Next day I received an email inviting me to an in-person interview.
The first week of September I went to the interview.
The H.R manager who interviewed me last time was there and so was the person who would be my boss, they asked me a couple of standard questions and the H.R guy asked me again why I left my last job.
I was once again was completely honest.
They both smiled , the head manager told me they did not have a senior position for me at the moment but thought I would be a good fit at a Junior one.
They sent me an offer 2 days latter, It was the same description as my previous job, with a slightly higher pay.
This week was my 6 months review, My boss gave me without asking a 10% raise, plus a bonus equal to half a months pay, he told I was doing outstanding work and that he and the H.R rep knew they had a made the right choice hiring me. He told me that in a year I should be in a senior position , he included all he told me it via email after the meeting, including the Senior part.
The point of all this is that you can make it happen, I live inside the E.U , I am in my 40's have two kids and was scared shitless when I resigned.
So far at my new job there are Zero over time, I can work from home 3 times a week, If I live more than 10 km from my office I can claim the bus/train/gas fair as a business expense.
I feel valued , I feel valued , I have good co workers and I can speak freely and honestly to my direct boss.
This is a huge company, and still the bosses care, not all jobs suck !!!
Keep on fighting for what's right, stand up for yourselves and believe you can do better
