Unpaid working interview?

I’m supposed to be going to a “working interview” tomorrow, where I will be doing an hour of labour and then be evaluated on this, rather than a traditional interview. That isn’t something I have a particular problem with. The issue is that the manager said over the phone I would not be paid for this hour of labour. On top of that, I am in Canada and tomorrow will be a statutory holiday. If I wasn’t there then they’d have to pay an actual employee time and a half for that hour of labour. But if I work it, I get nothing, even if I get the job. Am I overreacting or does this seem like a shady and exploitative business practice?
