My 7 days at a $12/hr job

I was going to school for my EMT certification (that’s another issue I will get into later) I just wanted something simple and stress free, boy was I ignorant to the way of the world. It was $12 an hour part time gig, before I got hired I sat down with the manager and had to be quizzed on how much I knew about cars he asked me if I knew how to change batteries, air filters, and if I worked on my car at all. I said “yes” he said “don’t worry we don’t expect our employees to be mechanics” and I said “I hope not” any way I let the manager know that I was just working here for something simple and stress-free I don’t want to take work home with me and the main goal is to get my certification.

It’s part time so I figured it would mean part time hours. My first week the manager had me on schedule for 40 hours, why on earth would anybody work full-time and not get full-time benefits? He was pencilling the schedule still when I saw it and he said “school is going to feel like a treat for you” context being “I’m going to work you so hard that school is going to feel like a break.” I told Him “this is not what we talked about during the interview, getting my certification is more important than this job.” And had to explain to him 12 hours in class means just as much homework I said “ I’m not gonna work full-time for part-time benefits.” The next week he had me down for 32 hours. The only perk about this job is that you get a little card that gives you I think 20 to 30% off Anything in the store. Me being who I was would scan my card for complete strangers. One guy was short five dollars he didn’t have enough money to cover brake pads, I scanned my card to help him out. I would do it if someone waited too long in line, I would do it just because I liked a shirt that someone was wearing.
I then found out that the manager on shift was supposed to be keeping track every time you scanned your card micromanaging the little 20%-30% discount. Apparently you could only use it for yourself.

I lasted 7 days at Autozone. When I quit he said “please let’s talk about this’” we were already short handed and me leaving would set the store on fire I guess , I just said no thank you. I had to stand up for myself. Im tired of being valued only by how hard you work for next to nothing.
