I just wanted opinion of antiwork community. So in my previous job as a manager I was told im hired because their staff is not doing their job and bad reviews are pouring in. Together with me was 2 new hires I was supposed to manage. One was gone for regularly calling in sick and also her job performance was so so. She would literally do her job just fine few hours after I trained her ( near every day), but closer to break time or closing time it would get awful. So of course she would get upset when u would teach her every day the same things or calling her back so that she fixes her mistakes. The other hire was doing her job just fine if it was something she liked to do, the minute it wasn't she would cry and other managers would feel sorry for her and allow her to do only things she likes. Oldest hires ( the ones who had performance problems) ,would call me horrible when I would point out their mistakes and ask them to fix them. I was told by them that before I came in ,they never had to do certain things, that are standards in this business. I would be told by Upper management to treat them like kids. Its of course wonderful they care about their staffs wellbeing but this was resulting in low performance and spoiled behaviour. Wheres the line? I felt not supported my management who should basically tell them, either u do your job and learn or we will have to let u go. I also would say things like guys can u please next time to do this,I fixed it now but for next time please remember this. Guys u forget to do this, can u please do it now or after u finish this? I feel like a Karen and a monster. Felt like I poisoned the air with my requests.
