So I am a cashier at a grocery store.
I looked at this weeks schedule to see what i had to work. But i was disappointed when i saw that I'm working to close 11pm. To a normal person, this would be fine. But i'm not a normal person.
I have to take medicine on a timely manner (keppra) 9am and 9 pm. And I asked one of my 5 managers to keep my schedule to 10 am to 10 pm. And they agreed. It worked, even though my schedule is all over the place now. But sometime i work to 10 pm and i'm going off the grace period of my meds, 1 hour. And they know this. It's 10 pm whatever, go home quickly take my meds and just relax.
But i'll be working to 11 pm on day next week. I'm going off my grace period which means i probably will have to not take my meds for that day. Which is VERY bad, and will likely cause seizures. (i don't have any confirmed illness that causes them, i just have them when triggered, stress and heat)
And i know some of you might say, just take your meds at work. And I will say, I tried that one time. I worked to 10 pm one day, and had my 15 minute break, and when i came back, my baggie holding my pill was gone from the drawer. Even when i told one manager who took over for me that i had them in that drawer, but yet didn't listen. So yeah, i'm never bringing my pills to work again unless it's ibuprofen.
It's just frustrating that the managers
1.) Don't listen
2.) Only care about money
3.) Don't care about the employees' health
And can't talk to the managers about it because it's to late to fix my schedule, it's set in stone.
I swear, i'm thinking of quitting
This isn't a oh I just want a day off type thing, i set my availability for a specific reason (health) and they broke it
Some might say just put you pills in your pocket. I could but the thing is
1.) I might lose it (fall out) because i'm all over the place basically doing two jobs at once since the courtesy clerks like to just talk and hang out, or do their job poorly, or just on their phone (I've had customers complain about this)
2.) After seizure meds kick in at night, i shouldn't be working. For me, i'm just really tired. So if i take my pills regularly, i'm going off of 1 1/2 hours of being tired af working a register, anybody see the problem with that. It's like a drunk person driving. A disaster waiting to happen.
And sadly this isn't the first time my health was put on the line in this crappy job. Okay i'm exaggerating on this one. But i got sick one time, just like cold sick (no energy, felt chills and cold, very tired, and achy). And they forced me to be there. A employee that shouldn't have been there, period. Is now working with food and customers, while sick.
Tbh, i don't even want to try to sue. I work at a big corporate company. And if wal-mart can get away with this type of stuff 9/10 they'll get away with it. And tbh, i just want to find a new job
