Yet management doesn’t understand why they have a retention problem.

I work at a job where they only have 3 people managing work for an entire State. Because of this, there is always too much work, but I didn't mind because the boss was great and made the job fun. Recently, my boss quit to get a different job, leaving behind me and the new trainee. In context, I'm a level 1, getting paid 24 an hour. My boss was a level 3 getting paid 31 an hour. With my boss leaving, the work was still there and had to be done so I asked if I would be getting promoted.

Since level 1's aren't allowed to do work without supervision, but there would be no supervisor anymore in my office.

Not only did management tell me they won't promote me and they expect me to do the level 3 work, but they also want me to TRAIN whoever they hire as level 3.

THEY WANTED ME TO TRAIN MY SUPERIOR WHILE GETTING PAID LESS.

So I started applying for other jobs and got an offer where they would pay me as a level 2. I even told work I had a job offer and they didn't do anything.

Of course , I accepted the job and put in my two weeks notice. Entire office was Pikachu face. One of the people in upper management even cried. They were so surprised that I would just leave.

Now they are stuck with a new hire who doesn't know how to do much of the giant load of work. They will probably have to fly someone from another state to train them for a couple of months…..that seems like a much larger cost than just compensating me correctly.
