My parents told me they couldn’t afford their house if it was purchased today.

I was talking to my mother about how crappy the housing market is, and asked about when they bought their house over 20 years ago. She said my dad was making a little over 15 an hour, and managed to buy the three bedroom, two bathroom ranch style house I grew up in. Big backyard and everything. It was purchased for 112k. It’s currently valued (without an appraisal) at almost half a million. She said they couldn’t afford the house they OWN today. My mom was a SAHM too. They lived off my dads paycheck. I currently make over double what my dad made back then, and I can’t afford a damn house. I’m tired man. Millennials are bitter, because we were promised so much, and it was yanked out from beneath us. We got to see the tech boom and the promise of the better tomorrow we would get.

Yet here I am. Paying almost double what my parents paid a month for their house for a shitty two bedroom apartment, hoping for a housing crash so I can afford a damn house.
