I posted this elsewhere looking for help but I think this is a good sub to vent about it. I still can't believe the change in demeanor in my managers attitude.
I recently left a retail position due to a toxic environment. We had an issue in our store where they “forgot” to pay us while our manager was away. It took over a week to receive. During this time I brought up with my coworkers that we should consider trying to unionize since management kept ignoring our messages. When the company finally asked what would make me happy in regards to us not having been paid yet I told them receiving my pay and that in my province being late by even one day is enough for me to speak to the labor board.
They obviously did not like this and I also believe one of my coworkers told the manager about me bringing up unionizing. The very first day my manager came back she wrote me up for not wearing the correct attire. We could wear white or black clothing and my shirt was slightly more grey than white. I explained that I hadn't been paid in a week and couldn't do laundry which she replied with “doesn't matter”. Previous to this I had never been told I was doing anything wrong and commended on a few occasions. From then on I kept being told I wasn't working hard enough and she would go out seeking anything that could be considered work that wasn't done like dusting under shelves no one including her had ever looked at before. This continued for several weeks and I know it is exactly what they wanted but I had to quit. It was all too awkward working with her every day where she would give me the silent treatment unless she had something to complain about.
Anyway, long story short I am now doing uber delivery on my bike which pays just as well if not better but due to the gap in between being able to start and getting paid it has been really tough. I was already living pay check to pay check.
