Can my job do this and any advice?

So context: I work in Massachusetts at a daycare. I was hired to work full time, 8-5 M-F. Our bosses said in an email that we will begin to have extended hours. My understanding is that everyone will still get 40 hours but it will be in shifts instead of being there longer. Either way, the biggest reason I chose this specific field aside from the kids of course, is the stability. Through trial and error I’ve learned that a clearly structured and consistent job isn’t detrimental to my mental health. Restaurant jobs or any shift-like jobs mess me up royally. I have bipolar 2 and am learning my limitations-one of which is needing structure so I figured the hours would be perfect-which they are currently! Also, I have another job that’s only once a week directly after my shift and a standing therapy appointment right after work another day.…

Also, I have another job that’s only once a week directly after my shift and a standing therapy appointment right after work another day.

I voiced my concerns-keeping it vague of course- and my boss said to not worry and that everything isn’t set in stone.

Are they allowed to just change up the hours on us like this if they do follow through? I finally found a job that I’m good at that doesn’t screw up my mental health and therefor well-being and now this might happen so I’m understandably very anxious about it.

I’m wondering if they do go through with it if a note from my therapist would excuse me somehow or if that’s even a good idea to begin with.

Apologies if this is the wrong sub but I am venting and looking for advice. Thank you<3
