So I work for a company that values “Quantity over Quality” an I work in a cafe responsible for literally everything in the cafe besides cooking and making deli sandwiches. Now today I was given more cookies and brownies to bag and stock on the shelves; the cookies were okay as usual.
Now this is when things start get good I suppose, I pull out the tray with the brownies on it & realize they are all weird looking and burnt so I go to press down on them “yes I have gloves on” and they are very hard on the outer corners and very mushy and soggy in the middle so I go to take a little piece and eat it to see why it looks weird & what do you know they are nasty.
So one of the cooks comes out in the cafe and I tell him “these brownies are bad & make some new ones” he said serve the inside part the part that’s all mushy. I said no because I’m not going to serve snacks/food that I wouldn’t eat myself. The cook goes on to say “they were frozen after being made then put back into the oven to bake again” that’s disgusting you don’t do that with baked goods.
I decided to bring the brownies to the back & tell the cooks “these brownies aint it” they said what so I repeated myself. I went to the bathroom came back and one of the other cooks said “just serve the middle part of the brownie” I said no they aren’t good and I’m not going to serve something I wouldn’t eat myself.
Now the “manager” comes up to me and says “you do what the chef says and serve the brownies I once again repeated myself and said no they aren’t good and the quality is bad; an walked back to the cafe to finish my morning tasks; he then follows he hind me saying “this isn’t a democracy you do what the chef says” I didn’t even reply.
I felt disrespected by how they just tried telling me what to do in the tone they did so I confronted them about it. I guess the manager got mad and told me to go home. I’m apart of a union working for this company so I decided to stay because I refuse to let someone get in the way of me making my money & it’s on my union rights.
So fast forward after my lunch break I go in the back to grab some things to stock in the front; the manager walks up to me and says “are we going to get it together and act right” talking to me as if I’m a child. I politely replied “ I don’t let people get in the way of me making my money I said what I gotta say and that’s it” so I guess once again that made him feel some type of way so he said oh yeah go home you aren’t working with that attitude and then proceeds to tell the union Stewart “send him home & he was clocking me out at 10” so inside of the union Stewart standing up for a rep she actually sides with him in a subtle way.
I decided to clock myself out and just go home. I personally believe I didn’t do anything wrong but care for people’s health.
