I retired early a few months ago from a career in IT for a very big corporation. To make a long story short, I sent a text message to an old coworker to see if things changed since I left. I quit my job over the imposed return to office full time. We were able to do 100% of our duties from home without any difference in our performances. Now, workers can work from home every Friday's for the summertime period. The usual schedule is half a day on Fridays, so it's half a day WFH per week. They also are now allowed to WFH 1 day per 2 weeks. They are the only company working at the office on a 18 story high building.
So, they basically went from work 0 days at the office to this new schedule, which sucks big time. The day I announced my departure I told my boss he could reach out to me if he needs me back and if WFH 100% ever comes back. From what I hear, the new hire has some attitude problems, lacks basic IT knowledge, can't communicate properly (language barrier) and is cumulating complaints after complaints. They are still desperately looking to properly replace me.
On a side note, I was unsolicitedly approached by a direct competitor of my former work asking if I would be opened to go back to work. I told them they would need to make me an offer I couldn't refuse. I don't think they could offer me anything for me to go back to work because I tasted freedom since a few months and I kind of like it.
