This was back in 2015. A company I work for was paying us $8.25 an hour. Small family own business were all management people were related. Payroll, HR, manager, owner, front desk receptionist… What I was told by another employee was that they were salary $900 a week and worked M-S 7 to 4ish.
Anyways another company opened up and started competing. Their pay was $10. So we complained and they up us to $10 as well. 6 month later the other company up their pay to 12.50 and started poaching us. We lost half the employees out of sbout 15. The company I was working had two contracts from two major companies so 1 of those companies after another month saw more potential with our competition so they decided to drop us.
The company i work for kept using the words, “family stick together”, we are “loyal here and that other company is not” etc. I was young and naive so i stay it through. They took away our 1 week vacation that i never used because you had to had work there for at least and 1 year. Didnt increase our pay from $10 because the company was hurting. Try to put us at other contracts from another company that the work normally paid more than what we were making but wouldnt increase out pay. Yet of what I heard all the family was still making the 900 a week. Eventually I got a better offer somewhere else and left. A year later I found out the company shutdown.
