Nit-picking bosses

I work as a receptionist at a modern hair salon. Recently my bosses have been super nit-picky with what I wear and how I do my hair, how I talk to clients on the phone and how I’m booking appointments. Clients come in and tell me how cute I look and they love seeing me but my management team always has something negative to say even if the negative comment is a reach. I’m the first person they call when there’s a problem needing to be solved or when they need a shift covered. I’ve been working at this place for a year and haven’t had any problems till these past few months. I’m the first person they call when there’s a problem needing to be solved or when they need a shift covered. I’ve been working at this place for a year and haven’t had any problems till these past few months.

When I talked to my mom about it she said that she’s heard of businesses picking apart employees they don’t want to fire but they don’t want to work there anymore and picking at them until they quit. I told her this could be the reason but they can’t afford to lose me. The other receptionist barely works as it is and 2 stylists have already left since June.

Am I being paranoid? What do I do? This is my first full time job so I haven’t been in this situation before.

EDIT: when I was hired they said they want us to have our own style but it’s a very strict dress Code of only black/white/grey clothing, no graphics and no holes. My style is a little grunge but cute. When I was wearing my moms professional clothing bc I didn’t have very many black and white appropriate clothing they didn’t have a problem. As I was dressing as a older woman (I am 23). Once I incorporated my own style (still professional) and started dressing my age was when they started having the problem.
