Let go from work and two more people employed, help

Background: I worked in a zoo as a seasonal keeper and have worked there since February 2022, in the UK. In June, my employer informed me that work was running short and as I am on a 0 hour contract, that he would have to temporarily stop my work until the 20th July which would be the start of the summer period and therefore there would be more work. Fast forward to the 6th July and I got an email from my employer saying that unfortunately, they are not expecting high numbers of visitors this year and therefore they have to let me go.
He was willing to offer me shifts in the café as opposed to my usual job but I hat was the best that he could do. This was fine and I understand with the state of the UK right now that visitor numbers are expected to be lower.
However, a few days after this I have discovered that he has employed two new people to do the exact same job as me. I can't seem to understand this and why he would do this, it seems unfair. I understand he may have previously offered these two people jobs but surely he should have told them that they need to take cafe shifts or not take them on. I'm just not sure what to do or how to get answers from my employer as it just doesn't seem right to me?
Thanks in advance!
