Several months ago I went back to work after a decade out of the workforce. I was out due to a felony, never convicted, but I’m in Texas, not the most forgiving place even though they claim to be Christian. Anyway, this place gave me a second chance and I have performed well imo, it’s a healthcare setting, however it is a non profit and their surveillance for covid is an absolute joke. On top of this job I also care for my 100 yo mother. Well, you guessed it, I did get infected even though I was doing everything correctly, and I infected my mom. Luckily we have pulled through. But my return date is quickly approaching and I feel I just can’t risk my moms life for $12 an hour. Even though they were nice enough to give me a second chance.
So my question is this, I’m going to resign, but want to be nice about it because A) I need the reference. And B) They gave me a chance.
Do I have to give 2 weeks? And how exactly do I word it respectfully? I’ve been on this site long enough to read that’s just a courtesy, and these folks are all about money not giving decent care tbh. Since this is my only job (3 months on the job) in a decade, will not giving notice hurt me that much as I go look for another job?
Let me add I’m in my 50’s so this is scaring tf out of me.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
