Doing this on mobile and I’m dyslexic so I’m sorry in advanced.
I (23f) just started working at a restaurant to do prep. Been in restaurants FOH and BOH since I was 14 so I know good and bad restaurants and how they’re supposed to be run. This place is an absolute dumpster fire.
They expect three full pages of high quantity prep to be done within maximum 5 hours. It’s so unrealistic. The person who was training me was being demeaned, taken advantage of, expected to run three stations by themselves, and still get prep done in under 5 hours, and has been there for a year and a half. On top of that they were getting paid less than me. My coworker has been on the way out because of these reasons way before I even got there. We discussed all these things (as coworkers do) and told them they should be getting paid more. Management weren’t willing to give them more hours or pay them more. So they decided to finally leave. And tbh idk why they hired me because they were already expressing they can’t afford the labor.
Well I came into work this morning, before I even clocked in the GM sat down and gave a bullshit spiel about ‘expectations’ and then proceeded to tell me that is was illegal that I told my coworker how much I was getting paid and that they should be getting paid more. I called them out on how them even saying that is illegal and threatening to fire me over discussing pay is federally illegal. And it’s my federal right to do so and if he continues he can go ahead and tell me to leave. Proceeded to tell me to get out.
I was only there for 4 day for 4 hours each day. And they expected to me to be golden. The fuckery is real.
