I’ve been looking for a new job for the last week. I’ve been applying like crazy, sending out at least 50 applications a day. Most of this happening while I’m at work during down time (I’m a preschool reached, so my down time is nap time). I landed some interviews, and because I work from 7:15-4:30, I scheduled my interviews to take place during my lunch breaks or immediately after I get off of work. These take place over Zoom, and I do them in the teacher work room or in the conference room when no one else is in there.
I had an interview today on my lunch break, and apparently someone saw me during it. They immediately reported me to my manager.
My manager approached me after I had clocked out and was about to do another interview. She asked me what I was doing. I told her that I was taking a call. She told me that someone had seen me doing what looked like a job interview earlier. I didn’t confirm or deny this, as it wasn’t any of her business. She said that she had been doing this long enough that she knew, and all that she wanted was honesty. She then stated that I’m not allowed to conduct interviews on company property.
I guess I’m calling out whenever I have an interview now. I was trying to be considerate of their time, but that’s over and done with now. They’re already understaffed, but that’s not my problem. They get to solve that on their own now.
