I was told to find a new job, so I did

I started working for a field services company about 4 years ago. Early on and over the years I kept taking on other people's roles. Naively thinking that it would get me further ahead with the company. There was a person who worked for them in IT for about 10 years before I joined. He quit to start his own business without training the next person. When I arrived I was asked to fill his role. I was yelled at constantly, expected to deliver without any training. All I had was some log in passwords to the servers and I had to figure out the rest myself. And oh yeah I was expected to do field work as well. Fast forward to this month. I've completely taken over the role and much more. Brought their system to modern standards while flying and driving all over the country. I ask to…

I ask to stop traveling and to do only office work. And I was told to go find a new job if I didn't like it. I was shocked. I thought I had earned my employer's trust over the years with my high quality work.

I was discouraged because finding work has always been difficult to me. I was unemployed for a long time before finding this job.

Nevertheless I put my new credentials on a resume and started applying. I got an interview the same week. On the video call they gave me an offer right away. And I was able to go back to my employer and tell them I was quitting.

Surprisingly he was very cold and unemotional about it. Unlike the yelling and verbal abuse that is routine at this company. And I let him know that it would be impossible for them to replace my role. There simply isn't enough IT work for someone full time.

He agreed to hire me a few hours here and there. But this is the kicker, my new company asked me to sign a document where I cannot work for anyone else so now, my former employer will have to pay more for the same services they were getting

TL;dr I changed jobs for less stress and more money. And my employer will have to keep paying for my skills because they can't replace me.

Bonus: I love the anti work movement. I'm sick of companies making money off people's skills.

I've started my own side business helping people get set up with a website and advertising assistance to become a freelancer on their own. PM me for details
