Hello! I had a call with my boss today. I assumed it would be a harmless catch up call, nothing serious. I am working a student job at my Uni.
She indirectly told me that I dont do enough work for my hours. The only reasoning she gave for that was that I dont click complete on many of my tasks at MS teams. She wondered if I had problems with the workload, mentioned how my hours and my results of work don’t match up, that I should have time do to much more, mentioned that they might not renew my contract because of that!
I was shocked but quickly explained that those tasks aren’t ones I can finish right now, they require info that isnt there yet, so I have to keep checking every time. Tasks are something like check if there is a new professor at this uni and then put the new prof on our website.I check it out and see there is no new one (it takes time before unis update their info on new profs). Then I write that info on the task and regulary check until that info is there for me to complete the task.
So I get that it looks bad that I have all these open tasks, but its not my fault!
I explained that to her and she just said okay. Its not like I dont do anY other tasks in the mean time! I do! It was clear that she didnt even check out my tasks, if she had, she would have seen and understood why they cant be completed right now!
Instead she implied I wasnt working enough! After my explanation I conceded that I will ask for more things to do if my current tasks dont require much effort. She obvi liked hearing that and switched to small talk.
I am upset and dont know what to do. She just assumed something negative and kinda threatened me with the non renewal without even checking out my tasks!
