Curious of others’ thoughts on an idea I’ve been trying to formalize for a few months. What is the feasibility of creating a hedge fund whose sole purpose is to transform companies into entities designed for the betterment of society instead of generating the greatest amount of profit possible? The idea is to gain influential ownership of companies to force them to make the necessary changes.
This is an incredibly complicated endeavor. It would require expertise in many fields including finance, law, and the social sciences among others. It may not even be possible to agree how these company transformations might happen. It would take years or probably more likely decades to gain any true influence. But my children and grandchildren are worth it. Your children and grandchildren are worth it. You are worth it.
The lure of potentially being part of a movement that transforms our society into something history would actually look at positively is a great motivator. Imagine what so many of these companies could do if they just made one simple change to their vision! But the other great thing about it is that it doesn’t require getting out the vote, spending countless hours organizing and participating in useless protests, or threats of violence. Most of the effort could be done without even leaving our homes.
