This could be a super long post if I let it be, so I'm going to be short. I work(ed) for a third-party call center company. The client I was originally hired for was GameStop, but GameStop sucks for a plethora of reasons. The latest reason was how they recently fired everyone at my job as part of their layoffs. I was lucky and was offered a work-from-home position, but I would change clients from GameStop to a small bank. I accepted since I can't drive on my own and they had fired my ride to work.
Two days before training starts, my throat starts to hurt. No big deal, I can handle a cold. That was on July 3rd. By July 7th, training had started, and I was in such severe pain that I was literally unable to sit still. I was sleeping during the day because the pain was keeping me awake at night, so I went to the doctor.
Bacterial throat infection, and a bad one. I was prescribed two things of antibiotics to clear it up. Luckily, it's been doing an excellent job. Since I went to the doctor on July 7th, I missed my shift. I also missed July 8th since my doctor had told me to rest until July 9th, which was a Saturday. So I missed two days of work. I got a doctor's note, of course, and sent it to my bosses, who forwarded it to HR.
Today I was told that they were going to have to “end my employment” because I had missed two days of training, and the GameStop client wouldn't take me back since they weren't currently hiring anymore. I brought up that my trainer had told me they were considering putting me in a later training class, and HR said they'd have to check. But yeah, I got fired.
This could not have come at a worse time. I am currently moving because the house I'm living in belongs to my mom and stepdad, who are selling it. And now I can't afford a new place to live, so I might be homeless unless I can get help from friends. I also can't afford to feed myself until I get it figured out. I'm still recovering from being sick (but doing much better) as well, and I have a dog that relies on me.
Fuck my life right now.
