Looking back, retail was messed up.

Now that I’m working somewhere outside retail, it’s amazing to see what I put up with. We had our water rationed, “bring in a water bottle already filled” because apparently we were using too much of the store’s water per shift. This got to the stage where employees were refilling the water cooler in the morning from the public bathrooms. In addition to this, we would get in trouble for going to the toilet because we would be away from the sales floor. I had been told multiple times no, I couldn’t go because I had stock to push and another salesperson had already left to use the bathroom. On top of that we had a dictator manager who made us feel guilty for taking sick leave (while casual, meaning we weren’t being paid, just not going to work), that it became a culture to come in sick. On top of that we had a dictator manager who made us feel guilty for taking sick leave (while casual, meaning we weren’t being paid, just not going to work), that it became a culture to come in sick. On our biggest sales day of the year several of us vomited while working but kept at it.

Our store brought in 3 million dollars per year.
