Employer takes all tips, is this legal?

I work at a fast-casual restaurant where customers order food and pay at the register, then sit down and are served their food at their table. I cashier and serve. When people pay with card, the card scanner prompts them to choose a tip amount, and most people do. None of that money goes to me or any of my coworkers, and since the tips are made on cards rather than in cash, it would be up to my employer to give us that money. What can I do about this? I brought it up to my manager and he said that tips are for people who make below minimum wage, and I make a little more than minimum wage. Is there anything I can do to get my tip money?
