Advice on Promotion / Job Offer

I asked for a new job title three months ago to get parity with some others in the company doing similar work. It was denied by my boss two months after the ask. Later, I found out my boss had been pissed at me because I came in making the same salary as him (since then he got a big bump and a big promotion one rung below c-suite.) I asked for a new job title three months ago to get parity with some others in the company doing similar work.

It was denied by my boss two months after the ask.

Later, I found out my boss had been pissed at me because I came in making the same salary as him (since then he got a big bump and a big promotion one rung below c-suite.)

I’m a director and my denied title was VP.

My boss is also leaving for six months to work on some personal stuff but remaining with the big title.

In the meantime I got a job offer that pays way more but is a director title.

And right after that I heard the COO told the CEO I didn’t seem happy (he does seem to like me).

Do I take the new job or go around my current boss (too the COO) and ask for the promotion and say I need an answer in three days?

I’m pretty sure my current boss never championed the promotion I asked for.
