Acquiring company erases accrued PTO for entire company in single email

The company I work for was just acquired. The new company has flexible PTO (unlimited PTO) while the company I work for has standard accrual PTO. The new company just Thanos *snapped* and made our banked PTO disappear. What is the ethical thing to do for the acquiring company? What would be a reasonable response from an employee here?
