MI court rules that “adopt and amend” tactic used by lawmakers to suppress minimum wage hikes is unconstitutional

Adopt and amend declared unconstitutional in MI TLDR: In 2018, MI residents gathered enough signatures for a ballot initiative to increase the minimum wage to $12/hr and include mandatory paid sick leave by 2022. So, the GOP-majority legislators quickly adopted the resolution before the election because it makes it easier to amend it later. After the election, they amended the resolution to increase the minimum wage to $12 by 2030 and took out the mandatory paid sick leave. A judge just ruled this tactic was unconstitutional, so we may see the minimum wage increase soon. This decision is also important because we have Reproductive Freedom and Voting Rights initiatives on the ballot this year in MI.
