About 3 weeks ago my partner turned in his formal resignation. He was having a difficult and depressing time with his job.
His management was abusive and had blatant favoritism towards certain employees. He had spent the better part of 2 years calling them out on their bullshit and trying to hold them accountable. In the end, he burnt out and nothing changed.
After having had enough, he typed up a resignation letter, turned it in and left. He's been happier since. He got paperwork in the mail today from COBRA informing him that he had been terminated.
He's upset, but definitely not surprised at this. It's definitely within their MO to do this, and he's frustrated that he still has to deal with their bullshit after leaving.
He wants to talk to HR, but knowing HR is not your friend, I told him to also inform the Labor Board and the Union. He still has a copy of his resignation letter.
Is there anything to watch out for? Is there anything I can do?
