I had notice given to me yesterday that I'm being made redundant. I've never worked anywhere else full time, I joined when I finished uni 10 years ago. It particularly hurts because I do lots of voluntary work to improve the culture of the place, and making stuff better for minority groups (of which I am one). I mentor others and regularly represent the company externally at talks, events and in publications. I'm not sure my heart is ready for the rejection I'm going to feel when the reality really sets in.
I'm terrified of what comes next for me.. but trying to see the opportunities that this may bring.. maybe some time off, reset my direction and actually find an employer who will consider me for promotion since my current one never has.
I feel heartbroken. I'm trying to be proactive to take back control of my situation.. but jeez, we're conditioned to go above and beyond, and in return we're always just a number. F**k them!
