‘Someone died? Get back to work.’ Is this normal elsewhere?

It’s amazing how big name companies won’t help out their workers when something devastating happens in front of them. Figured I’d share this and see if this is “normal.” Last year, one morning, two of my coworkers were near a man who suddenly collapsed, presumably a heart attack. Ambulance and fire department were called, and after arriving a few minutes after the call, and a while of trying CPR on the guy, he showed no signs of waking up. The vehicles left without their sirens on. I wasn’t there until I started my closing shift, so this is what I’ve gathered. The two coworkers who saw him and called EMS were understandably frazzled and taken aside to fill out witness reports or something of the like.

I had thought, after hearing all this, that they would’ve closed the store or something for the day so that my coworkers could go home, and since the store is part of a multi-billion dollar company, maybe even offer counseling services. But no. After filling out their statements, my coworkers were told they could take a few minutes to themselves or take their break early, but that they had to go back to work and keep the store running; they couldn’t even go home early. Before I’d heard of all this, I ran into one of them and he. Was. Pissed. Very upset. And they were both still expected to arrive for their shift the next day. It’s disgusting.
