I was still in the probation period of my new position but knew I was walking into a shit show before my first shift as they hired me over the phone and my first shift was that night.
I am a hard worker, or I was until this job. I have never felt more disrespected in a work environment. I had one training shift at one location and over the next few weeks was picking up shifts at their other two locations as well where they were all run slightly differently with no idea of the differences until morning staff complained I wasn’t doing my job. I explained to them that for just above minimum wage if they had issues they should inform the manager that I need training shifts at those locations and left on time every time because once my shift was over it wasn’t my problem.
A family member became admitted to the hospital so I asked for the next two shifts off as I provide private homecare to this family member and it is my full time job and needed to be with her in the hospital in the day until she was discharged and not the evenings anymore (I worked overnights at this new job).
I was told that I wouldn’t be able to take the shifts off or be able to switch them because of my probationary schedule and there was nothing they could do. So I told them I quit and because I was on probation I wouldn’t be in again.
Four hours later they had the audacity and called called asking if I would “at least” cover the shift that night since they couldn’t find coverage, not even a mention of concern for my family. No, fuck you.
