I have worked for a major retailer in New York City for 15 years. I was furloughed in 2020 due the pandemic being an in store agent. In early 2021 I was brought back to work in our Web Chat and Email department. My knowledge, speed and manor with customers make me one of the top employees in my section. In the winter of this year I had to move to virginia with some family. At the time I left, the company was pushing for full on site. My job is 100% remote capable and my performance has improved being off site. I'm curious about what my rights are here? I'm being let go due to a higher up (CEO) decision and my department heads find my performance exceptional. How do I go about pushing for a severance or an extension of benefits. My last day has been set for friday but I have heard nothing since being notified that I must return in office or be let go. Do I frame this as being laid off? Please help. Thank you.
