I work on the Deli half of a small cafe. on most days we have, at the minimum, 2 baristas for the coffee end of the business. I have quite a bit of experience in foodservice and deli so I can work completely alone on my half.
However there’s been a bit of turnover on the coffee end due to shitty management and so we are very understaffed on the coffee side.
Today with me, was a teenage girl with this being her first ever job. after 2 three hour shifts, she was made to run the coffee side of the cafe completely alone. I don’t know anything about barista work so i did my best to help but for some things I just don’t know what to do to help. We were told a manager would come in to help close but he never showed up.
I did my best to let her know she’s doing the best she can and that any issues with rush are not her fault but the managers. I also let her know the coffee side of the cafe is usually this poorly managed. other than that i’m absolutely dumbfounded by the level of unprofessional-ness coming from my boss/managers about this. Praying she can get a different, less shitty job
