I'm applying for a barista position and I've made a good impression with my first interaction and have an interview scheduled for about a week from now. I'm not worried about the interview, I think I'll make a great impression and I'm more than qualified for the job.
For the interview, I was asked to bring professional references.
The reason this is annoying is because
- I have been working with my husband as a content creator for the last 6 years, we bring in enough money but I want to bring in more money (considering having a baby.) But using your husband as a reference isn't allowed.
- Before and also during that time I ran my own photography business, but I stopped during Covid. I don't keep in contact with my clients from that long ago so it feels weird to reach out.
- I have a barista position from before that, and ironically, most of the people there quit due to the management harassing the women. I also quit and never really had a good reference because my manager, the owner, and his wife all double down and are still angry about the “inappropriate talk” that happened when we realized all the baristas were experiencing harassment.
Everything before that was in 2016 when I worked odd customer service jobs and didn't keep in contact with my managers, I don't even know who works there anymore.
Wish there was a better system, I understand the point of reference but I am qualified to make drinks, I've been doing it most of my working career!
