Antiwork

Started working for the first time in six months at a new job and I already quit.

I've been out of work since December but had enough saved up that I was okay up until now. Applied at a couple places but decided to try a car wash not too far from my house. Right away in the interview (if you could call it that, I walked in and they asked when I could start) the manager was complaining about his current employees being “teenagers who don't want to work”. Yea ok whatever I've had some co-workers like that no big deal. Then he says to get there on my starting date “about 7:30 or 7:45ish” now this might be normal I'm not sure but I really don't like having to guess when he actually wants me to get there to start my shift. But my first day comes, I get there at 7:30 and I need to show them my drivers license and ssn. I give…

I give them my license and a photocopy of my social security card. No good. They say they physically need the card and need to see it signed. Okay whatever I'll just come back with it tomorrow I guess. So the next day I arrive at 7:45 and finally get everything set up so I'm good to go. First thing they ask is “How many hours do you want?” I say 40 and they put me down for 5 days a week in a row starting at 8am, but not having a end time. Weird, but maybe thats normal for places like this I don't know. So I finally get working and its not so bad, vacuuming cars and wiping them down. But at 10:20 (2 hours into working)I get told (not asked) to take my break. No one bothered to tell me anything about how many breaks we get or how long they are so I was like alright cool. After 30 minutes I go tell the manager I am back from break and he writes it down. Weird we never clock in or out but just have to hope the manager is keeping track correctly, so they tell us to also keep track ourselves. I then started working again at about 11 until 3. No one seemed to care it was my first day. I was supposed to know how to do everything that was going on. I got yelled because I was told to clean mud off the cars but when I did it was “what are you doing thats dirt not mud”. And I found out that I would be working until our area closes at 6. At 3 I asked about lunch because I ate breakfast at 7:30 so I wasn't hungry at 10:20 when I got my break. My manager looked at me like I had taken crazy pills. “You already got your break.” What??? I'm supposed to work from 10:50 until after 6 without any breaks at all? And no one planned on telling me this when I got my “lunch” break at 10am?? I didnt push back at all because I had decided right then and there I was done. So I sweated out the rest of my shift and went home. God I fuckin hate work so damn much
