Employer stole my tips for YEARS when I was a naive teenager

When I was 16, I started working at a family-owned restaurant as a waitress where I made a little above minimum wage. The family collected all my tips, and I never saw a cent. I did not realize it then, but they broke the law. Diners would tip 20-30% on my excellent service as I worked there loyally for years. Unfortunately, I have to find a summer job, and there are few options. My parents are pushing me to contact this restaurant where they always need help. I am considering chatting with the manager about how tips will work this time but don't know how hard I should push about the illegality of holding them. I admit that I struggle to stand up for myself and am not one to seek out confrontation actively.
